I like how you capitalize every word. /sarcasm
I don't have characters I want to change the name of. When I made my characters, I chose a name I would like before I created the character. Peoplpe who didn't, made a poor choice. This causes minor problems with things like Guild Rosters, Friends list, reporting, customized weapons, armor, etc.
If you don't like your character's name, why did you make it?

I never said that I never liked my character's name. I really liked it at the start. I just got tired of it after 2+ years of playing with that character. I'm sure that a lot of us get tired of certain things after constantly looking at a certain character's little imperfections.

I just deleted and renamed a character because he was Pre-Searing and only 8th level, but I wasn't thrilled about having to do it.
I really wish I could give my mesmer a tan though, she's a little too... pale.

Personally, I don't feel the need to change any of my character names. However, I could see how situations might change, or new situations might arise that made it so people would want to change their character names. Personally I think it's stupid that you CAN'T do this. As for that flaming POS mystical nessAL... Is it really that hard to find something better to do then insult random people? Get over your own insecurities and find something more proactive.

/notsigned for name changer. When you started you're character you had unlimited choice of names (bar those already taken), and you chose yours. If it was a typo, the effort of rerolling is practically 0 if its a new character.
In regards to appearance, the only thing that should be changeable is hair style. Remember, Guild Wars is set in an (essentially) medieval society, they wouldn't have cosmetic surgery available. As well as this, its a stupid idea to be able to make you're character a different shape due to the fact that you're char is a hero, and he needs to be 'fit' to beat up the baddies.
In regards to hair though, everyone gets sick of their hair after a time or desires to try a different style. As well there is a limitation due to the fact that different campaigns have diff hair styles/faces. I made my ranger in Nightfall because I didn't like factions faces, and that prof rangers dont have a good skin tone. I like my rangers face, and its all good... however I would rather have a prof hair style. Thats the only thing that I think should be included. However should it be a weekend event, I dunno. I know that there are many weekends where I cant log on, so if you miss out thats unfortunate. It also has large amounts of wastage for that weekend (each character will use it a maximum of four or five times over the weekend, compared with double/triple weekends)

Most other MMO-like games that allow name changes have certain rules:
* only once every 3-6 months
* certain things, i.e. automatically leave guild with message "changed name", or upon entering guild giving a warning that this char changed his/her name in the last period.
This is mainly in place to prevent abuse.
Besides that, most charge some 10+ EUR for this service, should be enough to prevent people from changing names except it is really that important for them.
But I am totally against ingame gold charges for name changes, it needs to be kept in check.

Hmm seems like a good idea.. but think of it this way.. if a character have multiple armors, customized weapons, would you think that changing the characters name would affect a whole lot of things, not just the character name but also all the things associated with that name (Armor, Customized weapons, Friends/Ignore/Guild Rooster list).. looks like a whole lot of work for the devs.

It's possible that the programmers could do additional changes, with hugely more complex programming, but that work would most likely be made even more complicated by the fact that few players would be content with a gender swap, they'd want the full deal: all hair choices, all face choices, a height selector, etc.
I do agree with you guys that having such options -- any or all of them -- would be great. But the designers tell me we will not be adding these features to Guild Wars for very logical reasons, such as time, the long path involved in moving towards other projects, etc. We honestly cannot stop some staff members' involvement in the development on Guild Wars 2 to spend months on this feature, and I believe I understand that it would take months. (Consider how long Hard Mode took each time, and Reconnects, for a point of reference.)
We will, of course, consider the possibilities of appearance change options, even as an in-game store option (which some players have suggested), for Guild Wars 2. In the meantime, we have been talking about other fun options that are not completely out of the realm of possibility and which may find their way into Guild Wars. It's too early to talk about them yet, but we'll see.

Usually, I wouldn't support the idea of being able to change your name whenever you want, but your idea of only bring able to change it once is a good one.

Once is a BAD idea. A Weekend is a BAD idea. It eliminates a large number of people. Some people will be traveling, working, studying, or simply unaware of a weekend event that would allow them to change a character name. Once the weekend is over, they can't change thier name. This means they were left out. If it was implemented, it would need to be a one time option with no date. However, you will still have people who claim they changed a characters name, and a month or so later decide they want to do it with another character. The cycle would never end. There will always be someone who wants to change. Allowing people to change character names at will is a BAD, BAD idea. Leads to issues with guilds, friends lists, scammers, bots, reporting, etc.

I really want to change one of my characters names. My first three characters are called "A Leprechaun" (Correct spelling), "A Leprachaun" (Wrong spelling) and "A Lepracorn" (Completely wrong spelling). The trouble is I hardly play the one with the correct spelling but the one with the completely wrong spelling is pretty much the only char I ever play.
I would love to switch these. After about 900 hours, 6 sets of 15k and a storage box full of weapons on "A Lepracorn" deleting and re-rolling isn't an option for me.

I understand the guild-roster, friend's list issues that would occur if A-Net did this unless they made it so the name change also changed on those things. But there are a lot of people whom have either matured or wish to take on a new identity without losing their 15k armor, titles etc. And I am one of them. If you are happy with your character's names well good for you, I'm jealous, but if we can do it in Real life why not in GW?
